The Rutherford County Planning Commission heard public comments Monday on a proposed moratorium on new data center development in unincorporated Rutherford County.

Residents raised concerns about the potential impact of large-scale data centers as the county continues to grow. The commission voted to move the proposed moratorium forward, but it’s not a done deal yet.

Next stop is the Public Works Committee on November 3, followed by the full County Commission for consideration. The proposal would put a temporary pause on covered data center development while the county works on regulations.

No moratorium is in effect yet. More meetings, more decisions, and more public input ahead.
